Sell Your Sawdust

Subject experts often go through an involved and arduous process to achieve results for their clients. This can involve hours of research, multiple conversations with different stakeholders, the development of new frameworks, and the creation of workshop materials.

But like the woodworker, are you leaving your “sawdust” on the floor, or turning it into something valuable? After all, one person’s waste is another person’s treasure.

Here are some quick ideas to consider:

Repurpose Your Workshop Materials into Downloadables

Worksheets, templates, and guides created for workshops or client projects can be repackaged as downloadable resources.

Share Your Processes as Guides or Training Materials

Document your unique processes, workflows, or best practices (such as onboarding guides or project checklists) and turn them into saleable guides or training tools.

Turn Your Research and Insights into E-books or Reports

Research findings, survey data, or deep insights that may not fit into a client project could be published as industry reports or e-books.

Why should you bother? You’ve already done the thinking or created the asset; it may just need a bit of a clean-up before you release it to the world. It could generate income if you put it behind a paywall (try Gumroad as quick solution) or act as the first step in your value ladder.

And if you don’t want to charge for it, consider giving it away for free. This can help grow your audience, establish your position as a thought leader in your field, and give potential clients a preview of what it’s like to work with you.

Give it a try. After all, what have you got to lose?
