Things people say to valuable experts
“Can I pick your brains over a coffee?”
“Have you ever thought about writing a book?”
“I’d love to get you on my podcast. When are you free?”
“I’ve been following you for ages”
“I was having a conversation with a friend and telling them about challenges I have with X. They said I should speak to you!”
“I love that video you posted! It really struck a chord”
“How do you come up with all this great stuff?”
“You’re the first person I thought of when this came up.”
“I started doing X because of something you mentioned in your talk last year.”
If people are already saying these things to you, you’re already in a great position.
But are you making the most of your ‘mountain of value’?
Think about how you can:
1 . Support people who need your expertise, in a way that scales.
If 90% of your business is delivering to small teams face-to-face or individual clients one-on-one, you’re leaving money on the table.
2. Create products/services for the different stages of your customer’s lifecycle.
For example, consider developing a ‘trip-wire’ product for those that are happy to invest money/time, but only to dip their toes in the water. This could be a paid-for webinar, downloadable ebook, a series of videos.
The important thing here is to ensure they have to splash the cash.
3. Spend less time teaching the theory, and more time on the context and implementation.
Your clients want to work with you for your specific expertise, not stuff they can get elsewhere.
Find a way to do more of the former, and less of the latter.
